Badbee’s note: The last two lines of the second stanza are an interesting extended metaphor–“痩せても枯れても” is an expression meaning “no matter how bad things get” (lit. “even if you become slim, even if you wither”) and the “花道” referred to in the next line is a theatre term for the thin, raised bit of stage running through the audience that Kabuki actors use for entrances and, notably in this case, exits from the main stage. It refers euphemistically to the ending of one’s career in an honorable, “flower-lined” way.
Badbee’s note 2: Just for fun, I’ve included my guesstimate for a translation of Sekiha Tenkyouken and Fuunsaiki (before I realize they were Proper Nouns) as follows: sekiha (defeat by a narrow margin) ten (heavens) kyouken (iron fist) so, “Narrow Defeat By The Iron Fist Of The Heavens”. For Fuunsaiki, fuun (nature/the elements) saiki (comeback/recovery), so “Nature Recovers”, or “The Elements Rally”. I’ve also been informed that Fuunsaiki has his own horse-Gundam and I am emotional about that.
Master Asia:
The opponent I’m crossing swords with
may say that I’m an old codger
but in the end, in this world it’s all down to your skills–
no one has the urge to howl more than a weak dog.
On this path that I believed in,
tomorrow too, I continue on alone.
The path of the man, ah, don’t think to stop me–
a man’s heart is burning with fire.
If you’re caught up in the conflict between duty and empathy,
then what can I call you but a moron.
In the name of Master Asia
I’ll show you what you’re missing.
No matter how low you fall,
it’s an honorable end for a man.
The path of the beast, ah, raise your fists!
You’ll come to see a man’s heart.
“If we could save the world with love,”
those are the words of someone too stupid to be saved.
Sharpen your body and continue onwards
this is Sekiha Tenkyouken.
Oh Fuunsaiki,
this journey is just the two of us.
The path of the man, ah, don’t think to stop me–
a man’s heart is burning with fire.
